Chicken for two - PART TWO
Thursday, 3 December 2009
heeey, if you haven't read part one, scroll down the page, because then you wouldn't understand a thing.
7:56 p.m.
5:57 a.m.
7:32 p.m.
3:23 a.m.
2:26 p.m.
DAY FOUR
7:56 p.m.
It was extremely weird to go to work and not find her there. I know I've seen her just once, but something was telling me I should find her... That maybe she was the one. Ok, I know that may seems a bit to advanced to say, but I've never felt this way about a girl before.
And we just only met for seconds, our eyes just glanced at each other for fractions of seconds, and our skins just touched by a small instant – nevertheless, it was enough to make me go all crazy for her.
Was I ever going to meet her again?

DAY FIVE
5:57 a.m.
Again with the insomnia. I have already tried everything – teas, relaxing songs, warm milk, coutning sheep, smoking pot – and nothing was able to get me sleep. There was just only one thing left to do; and if I'm not sleeping in the next day, I shall try it.
And the new method I'm talking off is alcohol.
And the new method I'm talking off is alcohol.
DAY SIX
7:32 p.m.
If you are wondering – it worked as marvelous. I fell on my bed fast asleep before being able to take my clothes off, but I didn't care. If getting hammed means me getting some sleep, this is the way it's going to be.
However, getting constantly drunk wasn't helping my life at all. Once again, I was late for work, I was playing with the risk of getting fired and also was making my mind get really confused. Like, yesterday, at my break during the expedient, I decided to hang out in the club where I worked and ended up drinking a bit too much. And this other bloke tried to steal my vodka! Seriously, I didn't think twice – I punched the guy right on the face without even looking directly at him and we fell on the ground, punching and kicking each other.
And yes, for the first time of my life I've gotten into a fight and I got out of it victoriously.
Yay me.
“You're late” Selene said.
I didn't notice the unusual stare she was looking for me. I didn't care.
“I know”

“I know”
3:23 a.m.
“Oi, Alex, wait up for me!”, Selene called after me when I was leaving the club.
She was trying to find the key on his pocket, and as soon as she did, she closed the door to her club and she hurried to get on my side. The weather was freezing, so she put her scar around her neck and buttoned her coat, and put her hands on her pockets. I watched as a smoke came out of my mouth – I know this was rather childish, but hey, it was still fun!
“Hey-ah, Selene”, I greeted her as soon as she got to my side.
It was already dark – and the pole lights on the street were broken, so we didn't have a right clear view on our front. It would be rather a romantic scene if at least I had the woman I was thinking of at my side...
Sigh.
“I was wondering...”, Selene said, her voice bringing me back to Earth; lately I seemed to be in another planet. “If any one day we could hang out together. Like, outside work”
I shouldered.
“Yeah, it would be fun”
I was looking at the moon right on front of me – full moon. Perfect for a romance.
Grrrrr. I seriously need to stop thinking about her.
“Yeah, it would be fun.” Selene said, with a smile on her lips. She seemed a bit too jumpily and excited for my liking. “So... what do you think of doing?”
Then, something caught my attention. A woman passed through us – she was wearing a hood over her head, but I could clearly see her curls falling like waves on front of her bust. She was small and slim – and looked exactly like Nina.
I didn't think twice; I hurried until her, leaving Selene talking to herself, and as soon as I reached her, I put my hand on her shoulder. Panting, I tried to call her, but when she turned around I saw that it wasn't her. It was just someone else.
“Hm, sorry”, I apologized as the woman glanced at me with a scared and disgusted look. She turned back and ran out of there, thinking I would be some kind of sexual predator or something like that.
I walked back until the place I left Selene – she had a puzzled expression on her face – but I wasn't in the mood for talking right now. I said goodbye and I took the another corner, ignoring the fact that she was calling me in the dead of the night.

DAY SEVEN
2:26 p.m.
“You will love me forever, Alex”, Bob said while he forked his sausage and put it on his mouth, chewing it right after. “I know you will”
I glanced up at Bob. He wasn't much a fan of irony or sarcasm; he was a rather calm and bound to earth guy. If he was using sarcasm – it meant something good or really bad.
“Shoot”, I said, fearing what he would answer me. I was already training my mind psychologically so that it would be ready for whatever he was going to say. “But just be nice”
Bob stretched himself, increasing the suspense that was already in the air. He looked at me intensively, and squinted his eyes just a bit.
“I know where she works”
I raised one eyebrow. What was he saying?
“The girl you can't stop thinking about. Nora, wasn't that her name?”
“Nina!” I exalted, getting up from my chair a bit unexpectedly, making all the other customers on the bakery to look at me. “WHERE? TELL ME RIGHT NOW, MR. HARDY!”
Bob backed off, laughing at my reaction. He pointed at my chair, indicating for me to sit down once again.
“First, calm down. Then I shall think if I should give this for free or for something in trade of it” Bob said, taking a small sip out of his beer and then intertwining his fingers, looking at me with his eyebrows raised.
Damn. I hate when Bob is in the mood for games.
“What do you want, Hardy?”
“Try me”
Oh my god. That was killing me. Knowing that I could easily have the answer, and there he was, Robert Hardy, my obstacle to getting to Nina.
That bastard.
“If we ever get famous with our new band project, I'll let you always get the biggest room of the hotels and such.” I answered him “I'll do anything you want. I'LL LET YOU EAT THE CAKE!”
OH NO. I should have remained in silence! For weeks I had the desire to eat that cake from this old bakery and now that I had finally had the chance... There was Robert Hardy.
That bastard.
He smiled and he took the plate of the slice of cake right on front of me and eat a small piece of it, making a very satisfied and pleasureful face after chewing it.
“Hmmmm, indeed this cake taste like heaven”, he said, mocking me.
“Enough with this, Robert. Now answer me – where does she work?”
He didn't say anything; he only pointed at a restaurant right on the front street, where little tables covered with white sheets were situated on the sidewalk, with a rather fancy and comfy look; and there was a woman serving the clients outside the restaurant.
My heart skipped a beat.
It was Nina.
“Couldn't have you just pointed me there?!”
“Nah, that would have been too easy”, Bob said, taking another greedy piece of the cake and then eating it right after. “And after all, I wanted to try this cake.”
I rolled my eyes and I put some money on top of the table, to pay for my part – and I didn't pay for the cake, tehee – I ran off there before Bob could stop me. Even if the light was on, I ran through the street, taking care for not be hit by a car, and I reached the other pavement.
Wow, my heart was beating fast. Maybe it was all that adrenaline rush after passing through a near death experience.
She was attending an old couple near a empty table – and before anyone could sit there, I hurried and sat on the wooden chair.
And she turned around.
And asked what I would order.
My hear kept beating fast. I couldn't think straight – all that time, and I haven't thought of what I was going to say to her. Oh dear; I was a complete mess, a lost case.
“Wait a minute – aren't you Alex?” she said, remembering me. “From Le Chateau?”
OH MY GOD SHE REMEBERED ME.
Breathe, Alex, breathe.
Remember you are not a psychopath stalker.
“Yeah, it's me. Hi, Nina!” I tried to say as calm as possible. But it actually went something like “Yeahit'smehiNina!”
Does that sound a bit Japanese to you as it did for me?
She frowned, and I repeated the sentence as slow as possible so that she could understand. Damn, I needed to chill!
“Hey, why did you quit work?”, I asked.
“I didn't quit”, she answered, with her thin eyebrows raised. “Selene fired me”
“Wait – what?” I choked on my own saliva “Selene fired you?”
All of a sudden, every single piece of the puzzle started to join – all those smiles, all those jokes, all those innocent flirtation – they weren't innocent at all.
Was this the reason why she invited me to hang out these days? Oh dear, I thought it would be just something casual, between friends... But she wanted more! How could I be so blind to see? Stupid, stupid Alex! Now Nina was fired because of you! You should've seen the signs, you idiot!
Wait – mental verbal-insult wasn't going to help anything.
She suddenly smiled at me – maybe she was finding it a bit funny the way I was acting – and she passed her fingers through her curls, her face slowly getting red by time when she noticed I was looking at her.
I should forget this whole thing about Selene and just concentrate on the fact that Nina was on front of me.
“Well... Are you going to order something?”, she asked, when she saw that her boss was looking at her with a rather reproving tone.
Actually, I wasn't going to order; I just needed to get her attention. However, I was filled with a sudden idea that got my amazed by my own creativity and intelligence. I smirked and smilled at her, seeing her beautiful face colored by the sun, that was creeping right behind her, giving her an angelical aura.
“Hm, yeah”, I put on my thoughtful look for a moment. “Hm... Chicken for two?”
Her smile faded.
“Are you waiting for someone?!”, her tone was almost as disappointing and sad.
“It depends.”, I answered her, still with the smile on my lips. She puzzled, confused, not understanding my answer – and that made me smile widen. “Will you join me for dinner tonight?”
She smiled at me and she made the same thoughtful and mocking face I did, putting her finger on her chin, and she looked up, like she was considering my offer.
“Hm... Sure. Why the hell not?”
Yeah.
Why the hell not?
I glanced up at Bob. He wasn't much a fan of irony or sarcasm; he was a rather calm and bound to earth guy. If he was using sarcasm – it meant something good or really bad.
“Shoot”, I said, fearing what he would answer me. I was already training my mind psychologically so that it would be ready for whatever he was going to say. “But just be nice”
